Check out these episode highlights:

  • 01:26 – Jake’s ideal client: “It is undoubtedly, its business owners and entrepreneurs. It’s principally people who want to connect more deeply with their audience. So, business owners, entrepreneurs, who want to have a bigger impact on a global scale, they want to reach more people in the most effective way possible, the most powerful way possible. And in a way that strengthens and has a real depth of relationship, one-to-one with the individual that they’re speaking to.”
  • 02:16 – The problem he helps solve: “Far and away at the moment, with the setup of Instagram, the way that the platform is designed, the fact that it is principally a visual platform, photos, images, video, it’s so heavy on those things, that it’s very, very powerful for moving the emotions over a path of connecting with people directly if you like breaking down that fourth wall. And because of that, I think that the problem that I saw with the problem that I help solve is how to forge deeper connections with people. In a world today, you know, in 2020, 2021, yet we’re actually, the majority of people you do business with, you might never meet in person.”
  • 03:38 – Symptoms clients have before consulting with Jake: “Either they’ve been using social media in the past and social media more broadly, not necessarily just Instagram. And it’s taking time, it’s taking energy away from their business and from their main strengths. And for whatever reason, they haven’t got traction, they haven’t got the results that they want. They’re not getting in front of as many people as they want to be able to get in front of, they’re not getting, building the audience that they want to build. They’re not building the engagement that they want to build; they’re not getting the leads that they want to get.”
  • 05:08 – Mistakes clients make before they seek Jake’s help: “Tried to do it all themselves is the first thing, trying to create all their own content, feeling that they have to create all their own content. Taking hours actually doing that, creating the content, and trying to take the perfect picture. That is far and the biggest challenge, perfection every time.
  • 05:22 – Jake’s Valuable Free Action (VFA): “The one major thing that shifted in my mind was when I realized when I first got started it’s not to make it all about me. It’s not social ME-dia, it’s actually, social YOU-dia. What do my audience, my followers want to see?”
  • 06:56 – Jake’s Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Check out Jake’s FREE access to The Instagram Accelerator Training. Click here: http://jakeadamdavey.com/brand
  • 07:22 – Q: Why is what you do so important in 2020? A: We’re in an ever-changing world. I know it’s a cliche, but the only constant is change and flexibility, adaptability, and the ability if you like to engage your audience, reach people, connect with people through the internet is the way forward now for business.

Greetings everyone and a very warm welcome to another edition of Marketing the Invisible. My name is Tom Poland beaming out to you from Little Castaways beach in Queensland, Australia joined today by Jake Davey. Jake, a very warm welcome. Where are you hanging out?

Jake Davey 0:23
Thank you so much, Tom. I am in Sunny Manchester in the UK at the moment.

Tom Poland 0:28
Manchester, a long lead, continues to be so, heading into the depths of winter, but we can always cross our fingers. And for those of you that don’t know Jake, Jake’s a very interesting guy, because he’s come into the world of marketing in recent years, but really established a niche with Instagram. He’s empowering entrepreneurs and business owners globally to be seen as the go-to expert and authority, which is critically important when you’re marketing services or advice. You want to be seen as that go-to expert. And how he does that is, he shows folks how to get their first 10,000 followers on Instagram without spending a penny on advertising, which would be great. So that is really a nice introduction to the subject. Jake, how to use Instagram to build your brand, and reach your audience on a global scale? Jake’s going to show us how to do that in just seven minutes. Jake, seven starts now, Sir. Question number one, who’s your ideal client?

Jake Davey 1:26
It is undoubtedly its business owners and entrepreneurs. I realized that’s quite a broad statement. But it’s principally people who want to connect more deeply with their audience. So, the platform is a fantastic space to be able to build more, I feel like stronger relationships with people and connect with people directly. So, business owners, entrepreneurs, who want to have a bigger impact on a global scale, they want to reach more people in the most effective way possible, the most powerful way possible. And in a way that strengthens and has a real depth of relationship, one-to-one with the individual that they’re speaking to.

Tom Poland 2:04
Very interesting, because when I think of Instagram, I don’t think deeper and I don’t think one-to-one. So that’s going to be very interesting. So, question number two, and just over six minutes left, what’s the problem you solved for those folks?

Jake Davey 2:16
The problem is that increasingly, there are many, many ways, almost too many ways, if you like, of building an audience and connecting with people, and bringing in leads for your business. However, far and away at the moment, with the setup of Instagram, the way that the platform is designed, the fact that it is principally a visual platform, photos, images, video, it’s so heavy on those things, that it’s very, very powerful for moving the emotions over a path of connecting with people directly, if you like breaking down that fourth wall. And because of that, I think that the problem that I saw with the problem that I help solve is how to forge deeper connections with people. In a world today, you know, in 2020, 2021, we’re actually, the majority of people you do business with, you might never meet in person.

Tom Poland 3:09
Right! Okay. So, thank you for that. So, question five, got that problem that they’re trying to get deeper, more impactful relationships with people, their prospects, their community, their marketplace. Tell me about the typical symptoms that your new clients have told you that they were experiencing before they found this solution. So, another way of putting that, as someone listening to this, how would they know they need what you’ve got. What’s happening? What’s going on?

Jake Davey 3:38
Yeah, they have been using social media, either they’ve been using social media in the past and social media more broadly, not necessarily just Instagram. And it’s taking time; it’s taking energy away from their business and their main strengths. And for whatever reason, they haven’t got traction; they haven’t got the results that they want. They’re not getting in front of as many people as they want to be able to get in front of, they’re not getting, building the audience that they want to build. They’re not building engagement that they want to build; they’re not getting the leads that they want to get. And that is generally people who I speak to, on Instagram, it’s people who have tried the platform for a while, they can see the benefits of this incredible platform, but they are not satisfied with the results at the moment. They’re not getting the growth, they’re not getting engagement, and they’re not generating the leads.

Tom Poland 4:30
So, doing all the work in social media, but just not seem to be getting noticed. It’s like hearing crickets. Okay. So, to finalize, quite smart people; they realize they’re not getting their cut through. So, question number four is three and a half minutes. By the way, what are some of the common mistakes they make when trying to get that cut through before they find your solution?

Jake Davey 4:51
Tried to do it all themselves is the first thing, trying to create all their own content, feeling that they have to create all their own content. Taking hours actually doing that, creating the content and trying to take the perfect picture, trying to get the perfect picture. That is far and the biggest challenge, perfection every time.

Tom Poland 5:08
Thank you, sir. Just under three minutes left. Question number five, can we give folks one valuable free action that they could take? It’s not going to solve the whole problem, but it might take them a step in the right direction.

Jake Davey 5:22
Yeah, absolutely. The one major thing that shifted in my mind was when I realized, when I first got started, is not to make it all about me. It’s not social ME-dia, it’s actually social YOU-dia. What do you, my audience, my followers want to see? And if I really want to build an audience, if I really want to get in front of people, how can I give people what they want? And if I focus on giving people what they want, and making that shift, that was a massive, massive game changer for me.

Tom Poland 5:52
Wow, just one tweak. It’s just one tweak. It’s a, from ME-dia to social YOU-dia.

Jake Davey 6:00
Absolutely. I would just like to, I guess I would just add on to that. That all comes down to why people go on social media in the first place. They go on to be entertained, educated, distracted, a moment away from work, family, children, partner. And if we can capture that and give people why they go on in the first place and a lot of the time, it’s just habit. But if we can give people something that gets them excited, it moves the emotion slightly; they will come back for more. And it’s not social media anymore. It’s a social YOU-dia. If we give people what they want, they will follow, they will engage, and we ultimately will get what we want as well.

Tom Poland 6:35
Now, that becomes social WE-dia. Question six. Thank you. Just over a minute left so we got to fly. One valuable free resource we could direct people to, and I’m going to jump in here because I happen to know what it is. It’s www.jakeadamdavey.com/brand. What are they going to find there, Jake?

Jake Davey 6:56
They’re going to find my Instagram Accelerator Training. So, whether you’ve used Instagram before, or never used the platform before, there’s a free training right there about how you can get started with Instagram, explode your brand and reach more people across the world.

Tom Poland 7:09
I’ve had a look at it. It looks amazing for something completely free, JakeAdamDavey.com/brand. One question left. Question number seven, and 30 seconds. What’s the one question I should have asked you but didn’t?

Jake Davey 7:22
Why is what you do so important in 2020?

Tom Poland 7:26
And the answer?

Jake Davey 7:28
We’re in an ever-changing world. I know it’s a cliche, but the only constant is change and flexibility, adaptability, and the ability, if you like, to engage your audience, reach people, connect with people through the internet is the way forward now for business.

Tom Poland 7:43
Brilliant. Jake Davey, thank you so much for your time.

Jake Davey 7:46
Thank you. Thanks, Tom.
